Our Lady of Peace Students Recognized
Filben Named Student of Spring Semester
Mount Olivet – The Mount Olivet Lions Club presents a “Student of the Semester” award for excellence in academics, leadership and service. The most recent honoree is Tanner Filben who received his award from Lions Club president Phyllis Amrheim.
At the award presentation, principal C’Ann Reilly announced that Filben was being recognized not only for his academic excellence in the classroom, but also his outstanding achievement of a composite score of 100 percentile on the recent National ACT Explore standardized tests.
Reilly stated, “Our Lady of Peace School is most proud of Tanner’s accomplishments in all areas of his educational journey. Our faculty and I are excited for him in his pursuits.”
Winning Projects Displayed
Fourteen Our Lady of Peace students were recipient of either Best of Show or Superior Distinction award in judging in conjunction with a Learning Celebration display consisting of projects dealing with Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. Those in grades six and seven had their projects judged in competition to advance to diocesan and regional fairs.
Best of Show winners: Kaitlyn Harris and Andrew Rush for Social Studies and Laken Schodzinski for science.
THE PRIDE GROWS:
County Math Day - 19 Excellence Ribbons, 7 First Place Ribbons, 2 1st Place County Team, 1 2nd Place County Team, 1 3rd Place County Team, 1 4th Place County Team, 1 Alternate County Team.
Regional Math Day - 1 4th Place on State Team
WV Children's Chorus - 1 student selected
Diocesan Social Studies Fair - 5 Superior Ratings, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place
Regional Social Studies Fair - 1 1st Place in Geography; 1 - 2nd Place in US History
Spelling Bee - 1 first Place in Region; 1 advanced to Scripps National Spelling Bee
Diocesan Science Fair - 1 Superior Rating
West Liberty University Science Fair - 1st Place, Med & Health; 3rd Place, Med. & Health; and 3rd Place, Environ. Sci.
